The rub of the green.

Every footballer has their beginnings, usually at the local club level. From 5 years old the journey begins. These beginnings are often with family in the backyard, a park or the beach. It’s the back bone of a footballer’s  development, and the one constant in any player’s pathway. However the club is where a team starts. That’s why I believe every player deserves the opportunity to develop and reach their full potential.

There are many lessons in life, as in football. A footballer’s skill is very important, however there are other factors and life lessons the player must understand to make the professional arena. These lessons are best learnt at a younger age to allow a player to fully develop. Only through persistence, sacrifice, hard work, listening and understanding the requirements of the football team environment have I personally been gifted the opportunity to play the beautiful game at the highest domestic level in Australia, the A League, playing with premiership winning team Melbourne Victory, competing at the Asian Champions League and at the International level representing NZ. This knowledge and understanding of the game I have attained can greatly assist other players. I now wish to pass this knowledge on to players that truly want more in life, and football can help bring about that fulfilment at many levels.

With the Australian football market expanding rapidly, it’s becoming very competitive at club level. Competition for promotion, developing players, quality grounds, quality coaching, canteen facilities, the list of requirements grows yearly. Competition for players and player retention is also increasing. Family are now willing to drive much further, leave work earlier, pay more to assist their child attaining the most advantage they can. This advantage along with player confidence and a deeper understanding of what it takes I can offer to players.

I believe in developing  youth players in a caring, fun, respectful and competitive manner. Players will gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to achieve the next level of their progress by way of game structure, movement, different on field cues and turning their techniques to skills. To gain this deeper understanding of football it’s best learnt at a younger age. This will greatly assist players to have a broader knowledge of the game and expectations as they progress through the age divisions, NPL levels and the professional ranks. The next generation is here now, they are the children of today, they are the future golden generation.
